ABCs of BLM
While I’m thrilled that companies seem to have recently discovered the existence and importance of Black people, I want Black kids to understand their beauty and worth from a young age.
When kids learn differently, they live differently.

A is for Afro
An afro is a hairstyle worn by black people. It also means anything related to black culture.

B is for Braids
Braids are hair made up of three or more interlaced strands. Your braids are beautiful.

C is for Community
Community is a group of people that look after each other.
You are cared for.

D is for Diaspora
Diaspora is when people whose families are from one place were forced to live somewhere else.

E is for Equality
Equality means everyone gets treated fairly.

F is for Freedom
Freedom means being able to make your own choices. You are free.

G is for Generation
A generation is a group of people all born around the same time. Your generation will do great things.

H is for Hero
A hero is someone who admired for their courage, outstanding achievements, and noble qualities.

I is for Identity
Identity is who you are. You make your own identity.

J is for Justice
Justice means doing what’s right.

K is for King
Kings are highly respected men who lead their people.

L is for Love
Love means caring about someone no matter what. You are loved.

M is for Melanin
Melanin is what makes your skin darker.

N is for Name
Your name is what people call you. Your name is special, just like you.

O is for Opportunity
Opportunity is the chance to do something. Always take the opportunity to learn and grow.

P is for Peace
Peace is freedom from disturbance. Protect your peace.

Q is for Queen
A queen is a respected woman who leads her people. Just like a king!

R is for Rights
Rights are something you deserve just for being born. You have the right to live freely and safely.

S is for Smart
Being smart means knowing how to do things. You are smart.

T is for Talent
Talent is something you are good at. You are talented.

U is for United
Being united means to be joined together politically, for a common purpose, or by common feelings.

V is for Voice
Your voice is what you use to speak up. Your voice makes a difference.

W is for Wealth
Wealth is money or possessions you save up over time to give to your kids.

X is for Malcolm X
Malcolm X was a man who encouraged black people to stand up for themselves.

Y is for Yoruba
Yoruba is an important west African culture with beautiful art, history, and religion.

Z is for Zenith
Zenith means when something is most powerful.
